Mayor's Message

I have the honor of serving as Mayor this year for of City of Cotati and would like to welcome you to our website and our city.

Founded in 1893, Cotati has long been considered the "Hub" of Sonoma County, by virtue of its central location, and its distinct and historic hexagonal plaza. This design exists in only two cities in all of the United States. We are surrounded by bucolic vistas of oak-studded hills, vineyards, and majestic redwoods. Cotati also has the distinction of having a rare chimera albino redwood tree right next to our train depot. Our city offers all the benefits of living in a small city, with the cultural advantages of being located near major urban centers and a highly acclaimed state university. Cotati's roots are steeped in agriculture and music, and our citizens are proud of the diverse and unique community that has been shaped by over 100 years' history.

Cotati's residents are very passionate about how we plan ahead for our future. We are actively looking to expand our business base in a way that compliments, enhances and protects our small town atmosphere while living in the 21st century. We have an energetic and involved business community and a variety of retail experiences. There are a number of events and celebrations that take place throughout the year that offer something for everyone. Our annual Kids' Day Parade and Festival, our summertime Farmers' Market, the Cotati Music Festival, Oktoberfest, our annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration, and the Cotati Accordion Festival - the largest Accordion Festival in California! All events and many more take place in historic La Plaza Park, in the heart of Cotati.

We encourage you to come and visit, and in the process discover the spirit of Cotati. While you're here, enjoy our public art displays and visit our Historical Society Museum located in City Hall. We look forward to seeing you.
