Affordable Housing

The City Council has made access to healthy and safe housing for all Cotati residents a high priority. To ensure the housing needs of the community are being met, the Community Development Department administers the City's affordable housing programs and has formed strategic partnerships with a number of experienced housing service providers including the Housing Land Trust of Sonoma County (HLT) and the Sonoma County Community Development Commission (CDC). Staff oversees these strategic partnerships to develop and administer a variety of programs to assist with the preservation and construction of affordable and market-rate housing in Cotati.

One way affordable housing units are constructed is through the City's Inclusionary Housing Policy. This policy requires all residential projects of 10 units or more to provide 15-% of the homes in the project as deed-restricted affordable housing units, reserved for families and individuals whom qualify as either "Very-Low", "Low" or "Moderate" Income under the California Department of Housing and Community Development definitions.
